I am working hard in Court and in the Community to improve the justice system and ensure that it functions both fairly and efficiently." -Judge Allen Baddour As a Superior Court Judge, Baddour has presided over court in over a dozen counties -- including Orange, Chatham, Wake, Durham, Mecklenburg, Guilford, Union, Gaston, Cumberland, Robeson, Alamance, Franklin, Warren, Granville, and Vance. "The experience has broadened my understanding of the challenges facing the justice system in the State of North Carolina," Baddour says. Judge Baddour is currently assigned to his home district - Orange and Chatham Counties. He spent most of 2009 assigned to Durham County. Even though he's assigned to District 15B for the first half of 2010, there will still be some weeks were he holds court in other counties. For example, he was in Mecklenburg County the week of January 25. Before Becoming a Judge Prior to becoming a Superior Court Judge, Baddour was the Managing Assistant District Attorney for Chatham County. From 1997 to 2001, he was a partner in a small law firm in Chapel Hill handling cases in Orange and Chatham Counties. Baddour handled a wide variety of civil and criminal cases in superior and district court, including many cases on a pro bono basis. He grew up in Orange County, attending Chapel Hill High School. He obtained a degree in Political Science from UNC-CH, and a law degree from the UNC School of Law. Volunteer work has always been an important extension of Judge Baddour in the community, and he has volunteered with the Women’s Center (Volunteer of the Year, 2001) and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA Board of Directors (President, 2001), and recently stepped down after serving two full terms on the Chatham County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (Chair 2002-06). Judge Baddour is currently a member of the Criminal Justice Committee and the Technology Advisory Committee of the N.C. Bar Association, acting as liaison to the N.C. Conference of Superior Court Judges. He was previously involved in the Local Bar Services Committee of the N.C. Bar Association, and attended the Bar Institute Leadership Conference in 2005 and 2006. Judge Baddour also serves on the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) Judicial Forms Committee, as a liaison to the N.C. Conference of Superior Court Judges. The Forms Committee is charged with creating, reviewing, and updating all forms used by the court system. Judge Baddour is keenly interested in issues of professionalism amongst lawyers. For the past ten years, he has also participated in the Witt Professionalism Roundtable, which is a UNC School of Law forum for law students, professors, attorneys, and judges to discuss issues of professionalism.  Judge Baddour now serves as Chair of the Chatham YMCA Steering Committee. He also serves as a member of the Advisory Board for the Abundance Foundation, an organization dedicated to important issues of sustainability. Judge Baddour serves on the Board of Directors of the Elliot Road (Chapel Hill) Branch of the State Employees Credit Union. Judge Baddour served as President of the 15-B (Orange and Chatham Counties) Bar Associationin 2005-06 prior to taking the bench.
